Oil Change Intervals and Severe Service

Regular oil changes improve engine performance and efficiency and help extend the life of your vehicle. So how often should your change your vehicle’s engine oil?

First, you should always follow your vehicle manufacturer recommendations. Teams of expert, highly trained engineers designed your vehicle to be serviced and maintained according to specific guidelines – follow what they say. Not only does this improve engine performance and efficiency, but it also affects your vehicle’s warranty, and can be very expensive for the you, the vehicle owner.

Second, it depends on the type and quality of motor oil you put in your vehicle. Valvoline™ invented motor oil over 150 years ago, and they have been reinventing ever since. The Valvoline™ family of motor oil has a formula perfect for your vehicle’s needs.

Finally, follow service guidelines according to how, where, and how often you drive, and in what conditions. The is often referred to as “normal” versus “severe” driving conditions. Please note that our service recommendations are based on what vehicle manufacturers refer to as SEVERE (versus NORMAL) driving conditions prevalent in major metropolitan areas, of which Metro Atlanta is a rather extreme example.

Vehicle manufacturers generally define SEVERE driving conditions to include any of the following:

• Stop-and-go driving
• Frequent trips less than 5 miles
• Idling for extended periods
• Driving in extreme heat or cold
• Pulling trailers or carrying heavy loads
• Driving in dust or sand

Depending on the type of Valvoline® motor oil requested and used in your vehicle, the following recommended oil change intervals will be printed on your service receipt and window reminder sticker:

• Valvoline® Conventional 3,000 miles/90 days
• Valvoline® MaxLife™ Syn Blend 4,000 miles/90 days
• Valvoline® Full Synthetic 5,000 miles/120 days
